Frequently Asked Questions

What are the requirements for teachers?
All teachers have a minimum of an AA degree in early childhood education. At least one teacher in each class has a four-year degree.

What ages does your program accept?
Children ages two years through four years may enroll. The WEE Center follows Baltimore County policy, where children must have their birthdays by September 1st.

What is the teacher/child ratio?

2 year olds: 3 teachers/12 children
3 year olds: 3 teachers/14 children
4 year olds: 2 teachers/15 children
There are no younger/older classes. There are two 3-year-old classes, two 4-year-old classes and one 2-year-old class -- each having that entire year's span of ages.

Do children have to be potty-trained?
No. Children who are not yet developmentally able to use the toilet alone are welcome, and are encouraged to strive toward this important goal.

Does the WEE Center provide lunches or snacks?
Children bring their own lunches; snacks are provided by the Center.

When is the WEE Center Open?
The WEE Center opens to children the Tuesday after Labor Day and closes the Friday after Memorial Day. The Center operates weekdays from 9:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. and follows the Baltimore County School schedule for the school year, including all holidays, vacations and days off. Please refer to the WEE Center calendar for a general annual calendar.

Is there any extended care available?
The WEE Center offers before (8:00 - 9:00 a.m.), and after (2:30 - 4:00 p.m.) school care. It is available for those who need it for an additional charge. Children may be enrolled for extended day care on a regular basis at the time of registration or on an as needed basis, if there are any openings.

Are there days when the preschool closes?
In most cases the WEE Center closes in accordance with the Baltimore County school calendar. Please refer to the WEE Center calendar for a general annual calendar.

Does the WEE Center close for bad weather?
WEE Center follows the Baltimore County Schools system for closings and early dismissals due to snow or inclement weather. Closings, delayed openings and early dismissals are aired on local radio and TV stations.

What is the discipline policy?
At the WEE Center, we believe that discipline is lovingly guiding, understanding and accepting each child as a person of worth -- a person created in the image of God. We follow the NAEYC guidelines to help children resolve conflicts and enable them to make healthy, acceptable decisions regarding their behavior. Assisting each child in becoming self-disciplined as he or she matures is the goal of all discipline.

Do you teach religion to the children?
The WEE Center teaches children Christian values by example, Bible stories and songs. We communicate information about God, Jesus, church, nature, family, self and others through special activities and general conversation in the course of the day.

How are parents kept informed of what is going on in the school and the classroom?
Parents receive a daily sheet (WEE Note) describing the activities and curriculum themes of your child's day. A monthly newsletter containing Center-wide news and upcoming events is sent home with every child. Individual parent-teacher conferences are scheduled twice a year; more often if a special need arises.

Are parents permitted to get involved in the Center?
Parents are our most valuable resource! We welcome your interest and desire to be involved with us. We appreciate your help and support ANY TIME, and may occasionally call on you to assist with parties, field trips, fundraisers and class projects. We maintain an "open door" policy to parents, and hope you will feel free to let us know your questions and concerns. We are interested in you and your child!

When does registration take place?
Registration for the upcoming year is held every January. It is open mid-month to currently enrolled children and Woodbrook Baptist Church members and is then opened to the community two weeks later. Registration is on a first come, first served basis. All current families are encouraged to register on the first day of registration as classes fill up very quickly. Please contact the Center for current dates.

What are the fees?
There is an annual registration fee and tuition, which may be paid monthly. Please contact the office for current costs.
